This digital painting was done for a commission, it’s one in a series of three. The ship is based off of the H.M.S Royal George, it’s a ship with a story to tell. In many of the references I saw of 18th century paintings of stormy seas, the waves were transparent and emerald. I suppose they chose a lively color to show the liveliness of the crashing waves. I considered adding lightning to the clouds, but decided that the scene was busy enough with the clouds. Now I’m working on the third painting, it’s going to be ships heading into the sunset.
